Tetris Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major honors show draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
